Mangowood's 2024 Block Party Brings Fun to the Streets of Palmetto Bay

As the year winds down, this Palmetto Bay expert agent finds himself once again at a Mangowood event. Mangowood is a grouping of homes in Palmetto Bay that create an idyllic place to raise a family.

When it comes to great bedroom communities, it’s hard to beat Mangowood. Established in 1958, these nearly 300 single-family houses are home to some of the happiest owners around…and with good reason.

In November of each year, this voluntary Citizens’ Association elects its new board members and throws itself an evening block party. The inclusion of kids came in the 1980s, but it is clear they have become the focus. Each year there are variety of activities to keep them happy.

This year, it was laser tag, soccer, a bounce house, and other fun things to do, while the adults enjoyed some adult beverages and voted on who was going to run the civic association in the coming year.

They even have a Mangowood Directory that shares information about the families that live there. I am a proud sponsor in that directory and always look forward to bringing even more families to this wonderful community.

It’s one of several neighborhood events scheduled throughout the year, including a 4th of July parade (complete with an Air Force flyover), huge multi-block garage sale and police/fire truck-escorted Easter Bunny and Santa events. They even have house decoration awards for Halloween and Christmas.

It’s all about honoring thy neighbor and truly doing things together. And the monument sign at its entrance also has dedication bricks to honor those who served and lived here.

I have regularly sold and bought homes in Mangowood for nearly 20 years now. I can honestly say there is something special going on here. The neighbors all look out for each other and care for each other. You hear stories of ‘heroic’ behavior all the time in Mangowood.
