Powering Pinecrest

Florida Power and Light continues to partner with the Village of Pinecrest to harden the electric grid against outages, typically caused by severe weather. In 2022 alone, FPL is planning to install additional underground lines to replace more than 70 overhead power lines within the Village to serve more than 1,000 additional customers.

When undergrounding is impractical or otherwise not achievable, FPL is putting up concrete power poles. The key to the poles is their height. Many of the power outages in Pinecrest are caused by vegetation brushing up against the power lines. When raised, the power lines are safer.

These photos document an August 27th pole installation on SW 98th Street. The process shut down the street for less than two hours.
