Nearly 50 Years of Incredible Community

With a history-rich brick memorial and proud American flag flying at its entrance on SW 152nd Street and 84th Court, it is hard to find a more amazing neighborhood than Mangowood. Located in Palmetto Bay, this hamlet is a mecca for many families.

On November 13th, Mangowood Estates’ civic association president Tana Llanes announced the new boardmember lineup, much the same way as has been the tradition for 49 years. She did so on a blocked-off SW 151st Street at the annual block party dinner. The dinner included a rock-climbing wall for the neighborhood kids, a popcorn machine, music, regular and adult beverages and a vendor who comes in each year with amazing food for dinner. It is truly a sight to see so many of the 300 homes represented in one spot. The event harkens back to a 1960s-like idyllic dream where all the neighbors know each other.

And this is not the only annual event. The community throws events for Easter, Independence Day (with a jet flyover!), Halloween and the Rose Van Patten Holiday Parade (complete with Santa, fire trucks, police and local dignitaries winding through the streets) each year. For a voluntary nominal yearly fee, this group of dedicated homeowners make cheer flow all year round.

I regularly visit Mangowood and recognize the efforts of the Mangowood Estates Civic Association as the reason homes in Mangowood can easily fetch an extra 7-10% upon sale. This Covid-affected year, Mangowood amazingly saw three sales north of $1M! Home is where the heart is. And, apparently where the community is strong, so flows the money!
