The Comedy Inn at the Quality Inn
/Where’s the best comedy club in South Florida? The Grove? Brickell? Hollywood? Nah, Palmetto Bay! No, I wouldn’t kid you. Not only is there a comedy club in Palmetto Bay, it’s at the Quality Inn and it’s incredibly good.
Mike Levine, whose family has owned the hotel since 1972, started The Comedy Inn in 2010 as a pet project. Back then it was cobbled together. Today, it's a well-crafted venue comedians love, and that makes for great comedy. Levine says, “When you focus on taking care of the comics, they take care of you and the audience.” Indeed they do. Levine attracts and flies in nationally known acts for each show.
“We live stream every show and have five HD cameras capturing each performance,” explains Levine, “This allows the comics to hone their materials and see themselves from the audience perspective. We also get a worldwide audience of thousands on our website.” You can see some video of past acts here.
A lot of the success in laughter is creating intimacy and making people feel like they are in on the joke. The Comedy Inn nails both those criteria. The 70-seat room is laid out comfortably and from the moment Mike greets his guests at the door, you feel like you are with family. The comedians never hide waiting for their turn. They are accessible on and off the stage, making you feel part of the ‘club’.
Unlike almost any other comedy club, there’s no two-drink minimum. $25 per person gets you a great night of ‘dry’ comedy. $35 adds two premium liquor drinks and for $45 they’ll pour for you all night long.
So stay local, bring some friends and come to the place real comedy lovers rave about. The Comedy Inn is located at 14501 S. Dixie Hwy. Shows are approximately monthly. Their schedule and full info is at www.comedyinn.com. Levine concluded, “Nothing makes me happier than having the best show around in the part of Miami we call home.”
