Electric Vehicle Charging in Pinecrest

As of February, The Village of Pinecrest added another success to their Green Initiative reputation when they became the FIRST free, public fast-charging station for electric cars in Florida.

Located in front of Pinecrest Gardens, this charging station allows anyone to give their electric vehicle a quick jolt and head on down the road. The Village originally budgeted for building this station, but it was ultimately funded by a grant from Nissan.

Drivers typically use either in-car or smartphone apps to locate charging stations and plan their route according to where they can "fill up."  Now, they'll be able to enjoy the beauty that is Pinecrest. This is one site that shows the charging station location.

“This allows Pinecrest to continue its leadership in sustainability efforts and in engaging the community to understand the importance of being more responsible in the ways we live our lives,” said Pinecrest Mayor Cindy Lerner, who was recently appointed as president of the Miami-Dade County League of Cities and vice chair of the National League of Cities 2014 Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Steering Committee.

Village of Pinecrest’s building and planning department has two Nissan Leafs of its own and has a private charging station at Village Hall.

“Pinecrest Gardens is the perfect location,” says Pinecrest resident Ethan Shapiro. “EV [electric vehicle] owners want charging stations located near things to do. Here owners can stroll around the gardens, take their kids to the playground, exercise at the Community Center, check out a book from the library or even shop at the Farmer’s Market.”
