Kudos To Palmetto Bay & Miami-Dade Police

Earlier tonight I was at Sunset Place seeing "Avatar" in IMAX 3D.  The rest of the family was at home in Palmetto Bay doing their regular routine.  Homework, cleaning up, preparing for bed.  Then, just before 9:00p, my wife heard a noise from the other side of the house...

Without hesitation, she called 9-1-1. The operator took the information and stayed on the phone while help was dispatched.  Within 5 minutes, the police showed up in an impressive show of force.  From what we can piece together, they placed several police cars on either side of our house to isolate the area and stop anyone from leaving the block.  A helicopter also arrived overhead with an incredible beam of light.

The police started searching the yard with flashlights and guns drawn.  Once they made it to the back, they entered the home and did a methodical search of every inch of the house.  Thankfully, a few minutes later, they reported back to my wife that nothing was found.

My wife was a bit shaken by the experience, like anyone would be, but was incredibly impressed by the calm, courteous and quick service our police department provided.

This article is both a local news story and a heartfelt THANK YOU to Palmetto Bay and Miami-Dade's finest.  Both my wife and I feel incredibly safe knowing that that kind of response is just one phone call away.

As the block leader of the Neighborhood Watch program, we have been told that you should never feel hesitant about calling for help.  Even if it turns out to be nothing, the police are very happy to protect and serve.

If you've had an experience with our police department that you'd like to share, I'd appreciate your comments here.
